When to travel
66 destinations where July is the season worth going — with what each one costs a day, how safe it rates, and flights from your airport.
July is the most expensive month of the year in Europe, so the trick is to go where the season is good and the prices are not. Indonesia is in its dry season, the Balkans are half the price of the Adriatic, and Mongolia has its only real window.
The ones we would book this month, and why this month.
Peak dry season: sunny, less humid, and the best months for the Nusa islands and the east-coast diving.
The Black Sea coast in high summer for around €40 a day — roughly a third of what the Greek islands cost in the same week.
The steppe is green and the Naadam festival falls in mid-July. It is a short window: by September it is freezing again.
Every destination in season this month, cheapest first. Daily cost is bed, food and getting around — not flights.
Seasons here are the destination’s own, not the calendar’s: for Argentina or New Zealand, “summer” means December to February. Daily costs are typical mid-range budgets, last reviewed in August 2026.
