Contact

Destio is a small independent project, not a company with a call centre. Email is the only channel, and a real person reads it.

Found something wrong in the data — a country marked with the wrong climate, an out-of-date safety note, a broken page? Tell us. That kind of email is genuinely useful.

How we make money

Destio is free to use and carries no advertising. It is funded entirely by affiliate commission.

When you click through to search flights, book a hotel, rent a car, buy an eSIM or book an activity, you leave Destio and land on a partner's site — currently Travelpayouts and the partners it works with, including Booking.com, GetYourGuide, Hotellook, Airalo, Klook, GetTransfer and car rental providers. If you go on to book, that partner pays us a commission.

What it does not affect: the destination scores. The match percentages, safety scores and rankings are calculated from the same data for every country, and no partner pays to rank higher or to be recommended.

Privacy

You can use most of Destio without giving us anything at all. Filtering destinations, browsing the map, reading guides and clicking through to partners all work without an account.

What we collect when you sign in

Signing in is optional and only needed to keep a personal travel map. If you sign in with Google, we receive and store:

  • your name, email address and profile picture, as provided by Google;
  • the list of countries you mark as visited.

That is the entire dataset. We do not ask for your date of birth, phone number, address or payment details, and we never see your Google password.

What we do with it

Your visited countries are used to draw your map, work out your statistics, and — if you tick that box — to leave places you have already been out of your filter results. Your name and picture are used to show who is signed in, and your name appears on the image if you choose to share your map.

We do not sell your data, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not email you. There is no newsletter.

Who else processes it

  • Supabase — stores the account and the visited-country list.
  • Google — handles the sign-in itself.
  • Vercel — hosts the site, counts visits, and runs the function that generates your shareable map image. That function receives your display name and your list of visited countries, draws the picture and returns it. It does not store either.
  • Cloudflare — manages the domain's DNS.

Your rights

If you are in the EU or UK, the GDPR gives you the right to see the data we hold about you, correct it, take it elsewhere, or have it deleted. You can act on most of that yourself: untick any country on your profile to remove it, at any time.

To delete your account and everything attached to it, email privacy@destio.app from the address you signed up with, and we will remove it.

Cookies and local storage

Destio itself sets very little. What we store in your browser is:

  • Your cookie choice — so the banner stops asking.
  • Your language — so the site opens in the language you picked.
  • Your session, if you are signed in — this is what keeps you logged in, and it disappears when you log out.

One thing needs your permission: the affiliate network's tracking script, which is what tells our partners that a booking came from Destio and is therefore what pays for the site. It does not load until you accept the banner. Choose "Reject" and it never runs — nothing else breaks, and you still get every destination, score and guide.

We also count visits, using Vercel Web Analytics. We ask you about the affiliate tracker but not about this one, and the honest reason is that there is nothing to ask about: it sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, which is what the rules on cookie banners actually govern. It tells us how many people opened a page and roughly where in the world they were. It cannot tell us who you are, it does not follow you to other websites, and it is not used to build a profile of you.

Separately, the flight search box is a widget from our booking partner. It is the search you came to use rather than background tracking, so it loads with the page, but it only sends anything anywhere when you actually search. The mapping tiles, fonts and code libraries the site needs are served from CARTO, Google Fonts, jsDelivr and unpkg, which see the requests your browser makes to them.

Terms of use

Use Destio freely. In return, a few things you should know.

The data is guidance, not advice

Destination scores, daily cost estimates, best-season suggestions and safety scores are compiled from public sources and our own judgement. They are there to help you narrow down a shortlist, not to tell you whether a trip is safe or affordable for you specifically.

Bookings are with the partner, not with us

Destio does not sell flights, rooms, cars, insurance or tickets, and takes no payment from you. When you book, your contract is with the airline, hotel or platform you booked through, and their terms, prices, cancellation rules and customer service apply. Prices shown on Destio are indicative and change constantly. If something goes wrong with a booking, the partner is who can fix it — though do tell us if a link is broken.

Your account

Keep your Google account secure, since that is what gets into your Destio profile. Do not use the site to break the law or to scrape it wholesale. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service, and we may change or discontinue features — this is a project under active development.

Content

The guides, design and code are ours. Country outlines come from OpenStreetMap contributors and the world.geo.json project, and map tiles from CARTO, each under their own licences. Quoting us with a link back is welcome; republishing wholesale is not.
