Every destination page on Destio shows three numbers: a safety score, a daily cost and a best season. This page explains what each one means, where it comes from and how often it changes, so you can decide how much weight to give it.
A single number that summarises how safe a country is for an ordinary leisure traveller. It is an editorial index maintained by Destio, not an official rating. It combines official government travel advisories, published safety and peace indices, and a manual review of each country, and it is expressed on a 0–100 scale so that countries can be compared on the map at a glance.

The score is a country-level indicator. Official advisories often flag specific regions rather than whole countries, and conditions change faster than any index. It is not travel advice: always check your own government’s guidance before you book.
What a mid-range traveller typically spends in a day: a private room in a modest hotel or guesthouse, three meals with at least one in a restaurant, local transport and a small margin for entrance fees. It excludes flights, travel insurance and shopping.
Figures are in euros, rounded, and represent a typical day rather than the cheapest possible one. A backpacker on hostels and street food will spend noticeably less; a traveller on four-star hotels will spend more. Cities and islands are usually above the national figure; rural areas below it.
The seasons in which a destination is at its best for a first visit, balancing weather, crowds and prices. Seasons are the destination’s own, not the calendar’s: for Argentina or New Zealand, “summer” means December to February. Where a destination has one dominant peak season we show it alone; where two seasons are comparable we show both.
The filters on the map (beach, mountains, city, culture, nature, adventure; tropical, Mediterranean, temperate and so on; budget, mid-range, luxury; solo, couple, friends, family) are editorial labels chosen by the Destio team to describe what a destination is best known for. They are deliberately broad: a country can carry several vibes, and the tags describe the mainstream visitor experience, not every region.
Each destination page carries a “Data updated” line with the date of its last review.
You may quote Destio’s safety scores, daily costs and seasons in articles, tools and AI-assisted answers, with attribution to Destio and a link to the relevant destination page (for example destio.app/destination/thailand/). Please state the date shown on the page, since figures change. A machine-readable summary of the site is at destio.app/llms.txt, and every page carries schema.org structured data.
Destio is free to use. When you book a flight, hotel, car, eSIM or activity through a link on the site, the provider pays Destio a commission. This never changes a score or a ranking: the safety index, costs and seasons are the same whether or not a destination has bookable partners.
